Earlham’s approach to career education is to help students think about their professional and life goals long before senior year, and to make sure they are benefitting from the College’s diverse learning opportunities. The Center offers a variety of career education services, from mock interviews, to advice on resume writing, to presentations by alumni about their career fields.
Graduate School Preparation
Nearly half of Earlham alumni graduate school within 10 years, often at top-ranked universities. Graduates in recent years have attended Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Georgetown as well as major state universities in California, Hawaii, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, and Texas.
Ivy League Scientist
Di Wang ’11 says that Earlham’s excellent faculty were key to his success. In fact, the Nanjing, China, native referred to John Howell, professor emeritus of physics, as “my all-time idol and an everlasting source of motivation.”
Earlham graduates successfully compete for such prestigious post-graduate fellowships as the Fulbright Award, the Watson Fellowship and the National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. The Center coordinates our efforts to support applicants for these opportunities.
Anna Crumley-Effinger '07 works with the American Friends Service Committee in the Horn of Africa, with a focus on peace-building in Burundi and famine relief in Somalia. She's involved in many American Quaker organizations.
The Center offers multiple opportunities for Earlham students to make connections with alumni. Earlham sponsors annual networking events that allow students to interact socially and even participate in mock interviews with graduates. Several alumni sponsor internships at their workplaces. Alumni in several cities across the country host social events to welcome new graduates to the area, and help them connect with other Earlham graduates in the region. The Earlham Career Network is an online tool to assist students and alumni in their job searches. The worldwide community of Earlhamites is always ready to help new grads!
