Short Description
of the Minor
|
Philosophy minors must take the first three courses of our four-course
sequence in the history of philosophy, one any-level elective course, and two upper-level elective courses (numbered 300 or above).
This amounts to six courses. The students are also required to fulfill
an ethics requirement. This is not an additional course requirement,
but a content stipulation that one of your elective courses focus on ethics.

History of Philosophy Sequence
Take the following three courses, preferably in this order:
To go beyond this abbreviated three-course sequence to our full sequence
in the history of philosophy, see our notes on the philosophy major.
Elective Requirement
Take any philosophy course, elementary or advanced.
This includes all the philosophy courses except for the Kant course.
Elective Requirement
Take any two upper-level philosophy courses. This includes
all the philosophy courses numbered 300 or above except Phil 350 (Kant) which
is already required for the minor.
The Ethics Requirement
This is a content requirement, not a course requirement. Students
are required to take one course that focuses on ethics. The department
will decide each semester which specific courses will fulfill this requirement.
- This is a six-course minor with an additional ethics content requirement.
The six courses may be taken in any order compatible with their prerequisites;
they need not be taken in the order listed here.
