Leonard Bernstein: A Musical Celebration

The combined Earlham, IU East and community choirs join with the Earlham Orchestra and members of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in a centenary celebration of the music of Leonard Bernstein. Works to be performed: Overture to Candide; Symphony No. 1 ("Jeremiah"); Chichester Psalms; the Choral Suite from West Side Story; Concert Selections from Mass (an amazing work that combines elements of rock, jazz and classical styles). With sacred texts, sung in both Hebrew and Latin, performed alongside works for the Broadway stage, the concert embraces a broad vision of human experience and is a fitting tribute to one of the great American musicians of the 20th century.
