Biography

Matthew Cressler has a passion for exploring the relationship between religion, race, and politics. His research interests include African American religious history, especially Black communities on the margins of “the Black Church,” the study of religion in the Americas, and theory in the study of religion.

Cressler specializes in Black Catholic history and has a book in progress titled From Conversion to Revolution: The Rise of Black Catholic Chicago.
