Forbes lauds Earlham for value, financial strength

June 15, 2017

Continued recognition for Earlham as a national leader in value and financial strength comes from Forbes’ 10th annual America’s Top Colleges rankings.

Earlham ranks is in the top 20 percent of the nation’s 650 colleges and universities featured in Forbes’ report and earns an A for financial health, which considers factors like the amount of endowment spending per student. Earlham is also featured in Forbes’ list of the top 25 colleges and universities in the Midwest.

Unlike other college guides, Forbes’ rankings are focused entirely on return on investment, or what students are getting out of college. To rank each institution, Forbes considers metrics like post-graduate success, student debt, student experience, graduation rate and academic success.

Earham’s strong graduate outcomes are made possible by the College’s distinctive approach to the liberal arts, which makes purposeful connections between classroom learning and experiential opportunities like off-campus study, social entrepreneurship, and service. A major new initiative called EPIC is doing even more to enhance this approach by linking what students love with what they want to do with their life, including one guaranteed funded research or internship experience for all students before graduation.

Earlham has produced Nobel laureates, Rhodes Scholars, and winners of the Pulitzer Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Golden Globe Award. Last fall, four Earlhamites became winners of the Hult Prize, a $1 million start-up accelerator billed as the world’s largest student competition for social good.

Earlham College, a national liberal arts college located in Richmond, Indiana, is a "College That Changes Lives." We expect our students to be fully present: to think rigorously, value directness and genuineness, and actively seek insights from differing perspectives. The values we practice at Earlham are rooted in centuries of Quaker tradition, but they also constitute the ideal toolkit for contemporary success.
