Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese Studies

Earlham College invites applications for a full-time, one-year, Visiting Assistant Professor position in Japanese Studies with a specialization in literature, film or media to begin in Fall 2018.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities will include a full-time teaching load of six courses, three per semester. Earlham is especially interested in adding courses in literature, art history, film/media studies, and popular/visual culture. Courses that include other East Asian content, particularly related to China, also are welcome.
Experience & Qualifications
An earned doctorate or other terminal degree is desired, though ABD candidates will be considered provided they can demonstrate significant progress towards completion of the dissertation. The successful candidate’s research and teaching should focus on Japan, but Earlham welcomes candidates whose scholarship and teaching include additional East Asian geographical or cultural contexts, especially those related to China.
Japanese Studies at Earlham College
Earlham has one of the oldest and best-known undergraduate programs in the country for the study of Japan. About 9% of Earlham students enroll in Japanese language study, and each year 15-20 students study in Japan through one of Earlham’s two related off-campus programs.
