Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology or Sociology (Three-Year Position)

Earlham College invites applications for a three-year teaching faculty appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology or Sociology beginning Fall 2018. Areas of specialty are open.

The Sociology/Anthropology Department seeks candidates committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and to scholarly activity and active engagement with students.

Earlham is a progressive liberal arts college with strong commitments to social justice.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Earlham is especially interested in candidates with a research and teaching focus on one or more of the following: race/ethnicity/class, cities, media, education, health, mobile populations, sustainability, quantitative methods.

The College anticipates that beyond the department, the successful candidate would also contribute to one of the following interdisciplinary programs:

  • African and African American Studies
  • Human Development and Social Relations (an interdisciplinary program with Psychology Department to prepare students to work with individuals, organizations, and public policy relating to social issues)
  • Women's, Gender, Sexuality Studies
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • International Studies
  • Peace and Global Studies

Experience & Qualifications

A Ph.D. or an advanced ABD is required.
