Basic Skills Assessment - CASA
The Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA) is the basic skills assessment in math, reading, and writing which is required for candidates seeking admission to Indiana teacher preparation programs. The minimum passing score for each CASA subtest is 220. Composite scores do not apply when taking the CASA test. For more information, download the Core Academic Skills Assessment UPDATE (pdf). To help prepare for the test applicants can review the CASA study guide and/or contact the M.A.T. office.
Alternatives to CASA
Applicants need not take the CASA if they achieved a benchmark score on one of the alternative assessments listed below. The M.A.T. program accepts these scores as a demonstration of an applicant's basic skills competency.

- SAT with a score of at least 1100 based on Critical Reading and Math
- GRE with a score of at least 1100 based on Verbal and Quantitative prior to 8/1/11
- GRE with a score of at least 301 based on Verbal and Quantitative after 8/1/11
***Students applying to the M.Ed. program do not need to take any tests for admission.
