Post-Campaign Report

Displaying your purpose and passion for Earlham, our alumni and friends led the College to a successful completion of the largest fundraising campaign in its history: $67.5 million in new funds. Congratulations and thank you!

Purpose and Passion: The Campaign for Earlham benefited from a great number of volunteers soliciting gifts, resulting in increased participation among multiple constituencies.

Members of the Campaign Steering Committee, the National Leadership Council, the African American Advisory Board, the Community Partnership Council, the Faculty and Staff Committee, and the Alumni Council all played vital roles.

“This fundraising effort represents the very best of Earlham,” says James McKey, vice president for institutional advancement. “Our donors have responded with great generosity.”

In meeting the challenge of Purpose and Passion: The Campaign for Earlham, we:

  • Raised more than twice the funds garnered from the College’s last campaign,
  • Experienced the quadrupling of giving from the members of the Board of Trustees, and
  • Defied the challenge of fundraising during the worst recession since the Great Depression

Your efforts provide new resources for student financial aid, faculty development and academic program enhancement, and lay the foundation for new facilities for the sciences and the arts.

The vast majority of donors participated through unrestricted gifts to the Earlham Fund, supporting every aspect of the College’s program. Planned gifts were a crucial source of pledges to the campaign and help to assure Earlham’s future financial health.

Campaign by the Numbers

  • 36 new scholarships created during the campaign
  • 230 gifts of $25,000 or more
  • $9.8 million in gifts from members of the Board of Trustees
  • $10 million+ from Davis United World College Scholars Program
  • $5 million from the The Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation
  • 7,543 alumni (or about 48% of Earlham alumni) contributed to the campaign
  • 3,706 parents of past and current students supported the campaign
  • 2,189 faculty and staff members, community members, Quakers and other friends of Earlham gave to the campaign
  • 43 life income gifts for a total of $3,478,812
  • 26 documented bequest intentions for a total of $8,420,090
  • 12 gifts from individuals of $1 million or more
