Create your future. Shape your world.
The Suzanne Hoerner Jackson Equestrian Center is located on Earlham College's back campus. The 16 acres of rolling pastureland are divided into four sizable pastures (varying from 3 to 5 acres each) where the horses are turned out daily. The facility includes a holding pen, a 100x200 outdoor arena, and a 100x200 lighted indoor arena which is connected to the barn via a covered walkway. Both arenas are laid with a mixture of recycled rubber and sand that provides an ideal footing for both traction and joint protection. Behind the pastures is an extensive network of trails perfect for leisurely trail riding.
The 25 stall barn has twenty-one 12x12 box stalls, and four smaller stalls used for smaller horses and ponies. The barn has three heated tack rooms, two heated bathrooms, an office, a classroom, a feed room and a maintenance room. Included in the facility are rooms for both hay and shavings, both of which have automatic fireproof doors.
The Earlham College Stables offers limited boarding to Earlham and Richmond community members. Board includes hay, grain, and shavings, along with the services of blanketing, turning in/out, feeding 2x/day, and watering. Each boarder is responsible for cleaning his or her horse's stall each day. Horses are turned out daily from 7 a.m. – 5.p.m., weather permitting. Each boarder may specify their horse's turnout and blanketing regimen.
The daily care of all horses at the facility, along with the facility's general maintenance, is carried out by members of EC Stables Cooperative. To learn more about our Equestrian Cooperative, see “The Cooperative.”
EC Stables is visited regularly by local professionals Dr. Lance Alexander (DVM) and Dave Johnson (farrier); routine visits are coordinated by the Earlham College Stables Barn Staff.
