Director of Sponsored Programs and Foundation Relations

Description

The Director of Sponsored Programs and Foundation Relations holds responsibilities for pre-proposal strategy development, proposal writing and editing, post-award reporting and compliance for sponsored funding.  The Director reports to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and works closely with faculty, the Academic Dean and the Controller.

This full-time, 12-month appointment offers a full-benefit package. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Possess a broad general knowledge of pertinent academic fields and funding sources.  Identify funding sources for institutional priorities and faculty research, and disseminate this information to appropriate teaching and administrative faculty.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with faculty in a proactive way to find funding and develop pre-proposals, letters of inquiry, and final proposals for review by the approving Vice President and Controller. Review sponsor guidelines and assist with data collection.
  • Ensure currency of federally mandated and foundation grants policies.  Inform grant seekers and maintain records on policies and procedures that include but are not limited to Responsible Research Conduct, Misconduct, Conflict of Interest, Human Subjects, Vertebrate Animal use, Non-discrimination and all federal certifications.
  • Obtain approvals for pre-proposal (with budget), final proposal (with budget) and awards from responsible Vice Presidents and the Controller and, when appropriate, the President.
  • Work with diverse constituencies across campus, including senior staff and faculty, to provide effective grants management and timely, accurate grant reporting.
  • Communicate regularly with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Academic Dean and Controller regarding grant activity.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups.  Analytical and communications skills.
  • Word processing and spread sheet competency.
  • A service-oriented attitude and an ability to work independently. 
  • Must manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree, preferred. 
  • Three or more years of experience working in sponsored programs and foundation relations is highly desirable.
