May 15, 2013
Assistant Professor of Art Sungyeoul Lee is one of three emerging artists featured in an exhibition entitled “Selected Craft Dream 2012” at the Chiwoo Craft Museum in Seoul, South Korea. The exhibit will be on display May 5-20, 2013. Lee previously received a “Best in Show” award from the museum during its Craft Dream 2012.
Lee, who specializes in metals, earned an M.F.A. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before joining the Earlham faculty last fall, he taught at Oklahoma State University, Tennessee Tech University and the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Tenn.
His work has been featured in juried exhibitions all over the United States and in his native South Korea, including recent juried exhibitions at the Greater Denton Arts Center (Denton, Texas), the Wayne Art Center (Wayne, Pa.) and Mesa Contemporary Art (Mesa, Ariz.).
Earlham’s art department offers courses in metals, fiber arts, ceramics, painting, photography and art history. Art is one of most popular majors on campus. Beginning in the fall of 2014, the department will be housed in the College’s new Visual and Performing Arts Center, which will include modern studios for each of the studio art disciplines, plus teaching, rehearsal and recital spaces for music and theatre.
