Ford/Knight Project: Chemical Analysis of Ceramics and Art

May Term 2014

Art History and Chemistry students worked together with faculty members to analyze ceramic objects from the Earlham College Art Collection, using tools and software for chemical analysis of clay bodies and glazes, and conducting art historical research on the iconography of the objects in order to learn more about the locations and time periods in which they were created.  Students shared their findings with a poster presentation in the fall.
