On May 5th, President David Dawson welcomed 272 new graduates, and presented an honorary doctorate to Paul Lacey, professor emeritus of English. Professor of Anthropology JoAnn Martin gave the baccalaureate address, "The Art of Falling Into The Future."

The graduates of 2012 are moving out of the dorms... and very possibly to a city near you! Please help us welcome them. Earlham alumnus Manning Marable '71 has been posthumously awarded a Pulitzer Prize in history for his book "Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention."
The Pulitzer committee cites Manning's book as "a work that separates fact from fiction and blends the heroic and tragic." Manning passed away just days before its publication last April.
President David Dawson has announced the appointment of Mike Bergum as Director of Athletics. Bergum will begin on June 1. Already Bergum has announced the hiring of a new head football coach, Neil Kazmierczak. Both Bergum and Kazmierczak come from other Indiana schools and have strong ties to the region.MORE ATHLETICS NEWS
On May 4-5, Earlhamites around the world set out with their binoculars for the 30th annual Birding Big Day. Together they spotted 499 distinct species! VIEW THE MAP

Three recent grads will be spending the next year abroad, teaching English through Fulbright assistantships. Sarah Chalfin will be returning to Sri Lanka,where she studied before beginning at Earlham. Her classmates Erica Gendall-Conrad and Anna Hetzel are furthering interests developed on their study abroad programs, and will teach in Germany and Andorra, respectively. READ MORE
