Lew Fikes '65 majored in Chemistry and participated in basketball (1 year) and volleyball (3 years) at Earlham. Lew obtained an M.A.T. degree from Johns Hopkins University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from the Ohio State University.
Lew taught chemistry at Tunghai University in Taiwan (3 years), Erskine College (9 years), and Ohio Wesleyan University (19 years). Lew is retired and living with his wife (Martha Heisel Fikes ’67) in Delaware, Ohio. Martha and Lew have two daughters and a granddaughter.
Lew began serving on the Alumni Council in fall 2011. Favorite memories of Earlham for Lew include Ed Bastian’s History of Western Civilization class, the generous spirit and highly developed social conscience exhibited by Earlham students and faculty, and walking on back campus with Martha.
