The Athletics, Wellness and Physical Education (AWPE) Department strives to provide Earlham students with an introduction to activities that encourage and promote lifetime wellness and fitness.

Through these activities AWPE hopes to excite and energize students to continue physical fitness and lifetime participation in wellness activities long after graduation.

There are a wide variety of wellness activity courses from Pilates and backpacking to lifeguard training and learning how to ride a horse.

Participation in varsity and club sports can count for wellness credits, too.

Students fulfill the Wellness Requirement of the General Education Program by:

  • Completing four Wellness activity-based courses. OR
  • Taking and passing one analysis-based course (carrying two or more semester hours) designated as a Wellness course AND completing two Wellness activity-based courses. OR
  • Each season of playing a varsity sport fulfills 2/4 of the Wellness requirement. Playing two seasons of a varsity sport completes the Wellness requirement.
